Return to care

Louvain Coopération and the Faculty of Medicine of the Catholic University of Louvain-la-Neuve are pleased to present the initiative Return to care. This initiative was launched a year ago with the help of a sponsor.

In some countries in the South, health centers have been deserted by doctors. Lured away from home, sometimes despite working and living conditions, they are tempted leave their country.

Based on the premise that it is not enough to open hospitals to improve the quality of care for the population, Return to care proposes to offer more attractive working conditions to medical personnel so as to tie them to the health centres.

By encouraging medical professionals from Togo, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Madagascar to remain in or return to their country, Louvain Coopération, is actively involved through the programme Return to care in improving health services in these countries and works on the causes which make medical teams leave the people who need them.

Hospitals and the socio-professional environment are made more attractive to encourage health professionals to give people quality care at affordable prices, to pass on their knowledge and to train and develop local teams.

Specifically, we act by analysing each context and identifying the most relevant actions to implement, such as :

  Providing medical equipment

  Organising training for caregivers

  Promoting and enhancing career plans

  Supporting professional recognition

Strengthening ties with the Faculties of Medicine

Developing and building housing, schools for children, improving access to information technology (telephone, Internet, ...)
